Ludlow: W. Bridgewater Marine killed in Mass Pike crash

State police are investigating a four-car crash that killed a Marine from West Bridgewater.

Cpl. Robert Magee was heading west on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Ludlow at approximately 8:30 p.m. Friday, when he was struck head-on by an elderly wrong-way driver.

That driver, from Connecticut, was also died.

No one in the other two vehicles involved was hurt.

State police were apparently on the lookout for the wrong-way driver just before the crash.


Whitman: Educators invite parents to discuss school safety

The recent school massacre in Newtown, Connecticut is prompting some South Shore educators to be proactive.

School officials in the Whitman-Hanson district are planning to meet with parents Tuesday night to discuss the issue of safety.

The decision to meet face-to-face was made after mailings sent home outlining school safety procedures still left a lot of concern.

There will be free child care available at the meeting, which will be recorded for later broadcast on local cable.

The gathering is for parents, guardians and other residents, and will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center at Whitman-Hanson Regional High School.

Boston: Two Carver men indicted in construction equipment thefts

The Massachusetts Attorney General’s office has announced that two men from Carver have been indicted in connection with stealing, on numerous occasions, construction and landscaping equipment totaling more than $150,000 from Massachusetts and neighboring states.

42-year-old Robert Amado has been indicted for larceny and witness intimidation.

31-year-old Christopher Bromley was indicted only on the larceny charge.

Both men face up to 20-years in prison.

“We allege that these defendants are responsible for numerous thefts of heavy, expensive pieces of equipment across the region,” AG Martha Coakley said.  “They allegedly operated under the cover of darkness and often drove hundreds of miles to steal this equipment.”

The AG’s office began an investigation last November after the matter was referred by the Governor’s Auto Theft Task Force.

The investigation revealed that Amado, frequently with help from Bromley, allegedly stole various pieces of equipment, such as snowplows, excavators, and tractors, from multiple locations in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine and New York.

Additionally, when Amado became aware that authorities interviewed two witnesses in connection with their investigation, he allegedly threatened them and told them not to speak to authorities.

Both men are scheduled to be arraigned in Plymouth Superior Court at a later date.

Brockton: Woman accused of stealing car with baby inside

A Brockton woman will be in court on Monday to face charges of stealing a friend’s car with a baby inside and impeding the police investigation.

Officers say Kylie Andrade lied to them when she called and said she’d hand over the baby at the Westgate Mall in Brockton.

But police tracking her cell phone found her in Boston and arrested her after a brief standoff.

The situation began last Friday afternoon when Andrade was with her friend at a supermarket.

The friend says after she got out of the car, Andrade got behind the wheel and took off with the baby inside.

Andrade’s two children are now in state custody.

Duxbury: Barlow Facing Charges In Connecticut

A man accused of impersonating a law enforcement officer in Duxbury is also facing charges in Connecticut.

Easton, Conn. Police say 21-year-old Christopher Barlow, who was a volunteer for the Easton EMS, is accused of taking inappropriate photos of patients who were being transported in an ambulance while they were under his care as an EMT.

He is also being charged with stealing two firearms from a co-worker at EMS and providing a false statement on an application for a long rifle.

Police say Barlow is also suspected of placing a hidden camera inside a bathroom of the EMS building and forging official documents to present himself as an Easton Police Officer.

Barlow is facing charges from Duxbury Police for an incident that took place last June in which he is accused of falsely claiming to be an agent with Homeland Security and having a collection of guns, ammunition, explosives and stolen medical equipment.

He had been held without bail but was released February 16 on charges including unlawful possession of a firearm or ammunition and impersonating a police officer.

Upon his release he was ordered to wear a GPS bracelet and not leave his home in Kingston except for doctor’s visits.

Barlow is being charged with two counts of Stealing a Firearm, two counts of Voyeurism,  Illegal Alteration of Records and  Providing a False Statement in connection with the Connecticut incident.

His bail was set at $25,000 and his next court date is scheduled for April 5.

Halifax: Connecticut Murder Suspect Arrested

A murder suspect has been arrested in Halifax.

Halifax Police say they were taking part in a multi-town investigation into multiple house and 54 car breaks in the Brandeis Circle area of town.

At around 3:30 a.m. this morning (Tuesday) a suspect, 18-year-old Jamir Johnson, was seen riding a bicycle thru the neighborhood wearing rubber gloves and other clothing similar to those seen in a surveillance video at one of the victim’s homes.

Johnson was stopped by officers and taken into custody after a brief foot chase.

As he was being booked it was discovered that Johnson had an outstanding warrant out of New London, Connecticut, in connection with a December 9th 2017 murder.

Johnson will be arranged in Plymouth District Court on charges of breaking and entering, possession of burglarious tools, failure to identify, resisting arrest, receiving stolen property, and fugitive from justice.

He is being held on $50,000 bail and additionally without bail on the fugitive from justice charge out of Connecticut. He will be taken back to Connecticut to face murder charges, possession of a pistol without a permit and unlawful discharge of a firearm.. It is not clear Johnson has an attorney.

But mostly I want everyone to know the diligence and work ethic of your police officers, if it wasn’t for their commitment to the town and its citizens this alleged murderer would still be roaming our streets while we sleep. It was a job well done by all.”
